Meet Sarah Howard
Sarah Howard, LPC
Healing is a journey, not a destination. Taking the steps to begin that journey is one of the bravest—and, sometimes scariest—things you may ever do. Everyone’s course in their own personal journey is unique, just as every person is unique. The one thing we all have in common, though, is that when we do make the choice to begin our journey of healing, we aren’t just one, but two steps ahead. That’s because, despite how may feel right now, you already possess the tools and skills necessary to contribute positively to your personal experience of empowerment and growth. Sometimes, we just need some help rediscovering those tools and skills, as well as learning some new ones.
My approach to counseling is eclectic because of my belief that, just like every person is unique, every client is unique, too. My counseling approach focuses on multiple facets of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I help clients reframe the challenges they are confronting and develop problem-solving strategies that support them in changing the thoughts, feelings and actions that are keeping them stuck.
Something else I focus on with clients, when it’s appropriate, is helping them understand how their spiritual life can help them making the changes they want. My background in Christian Counseling provides me with a unique perspective for those clients who wish to approach their issues and concerns through the lens of biblical teachings.
Ultimately, my intent in working with clients is to aid them in setting sensible, obtainable goals for themselves and then working closely with them to develop the skills and strategies to meet the goals they’ve set. I also feel it’s important for whatever tools and skills clients learn in the course of their counseling experience be ‘portable’. That way, they can take what they learn in the consulting room and bring out into the world on an ongoing basis.
If you feel you need to make a change and are struggling with how to take the first step, feel free to contact me and set up an appointment. I would be delighted to be a part of your healing journey.
