Meet Barbara Johns
Barbara Johns, LPC-A

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and I enjoy working with people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, self-esteem, and those going through significant life transitions.
I believe that in order to heal, people need to have a safe space where they can explore what is contributing to their problems and how they can use their difficulties as fuel for personal growth in order to turn things around and live life the way they really want to. My goal is to provide you with that safe and supportive environment as well as with new tools and skills that you can take with you on your journey towards healing and growth.
I use different approaches in therapy depending on the client’s personality, circumstances, presenting problems, and goals. I believe this is helpful because people are unique and face different challenges so I can best help guide them by using a combination of several techniques.
Working with children also has a very special place in my heart. Through Play Therapy, children can often work through challenges and heal their wounds without even noticing because playing comes naturally to them. I also work with parents/caregivers to help foster healthy child-parent relationships and to give parents and caregivers new tools to help their children during the therapy process and beyond.
As Carl Rogers said “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination”. Whether you have been in therapy before or this is your first time, I would be most honored to work alongside you in your journey of healing and self-growth towards a good life.
Want to get to know Barbara a little better? Here are 5 fun facts about her!
I was born and raised in Brazil but have been calling the US home for 10 years (and counting).
I love all things sweet but cold fruit salad with sweetened condensed milk and frozen custard are my favorites.
The beach is my happy place and I love summertime (yes, even the 100+ degree days).
I’m a kid at heart and most of my favorite movies are Disney and Pixar movies.
I’ll take a 20-minute detour to not have to sit in 10 minutes of stop-and-go traffic.
