You often tell your child to “STOP!!”, “LISTEN”, “PAY ATTENTION!” ✋💢

You feel overwhelmed, frustrated and not sure how to stop the behavior from happening.

Maybe your child is throwing toys
Maybe your child is hitting you
Maybe your child refuses to eat their food
Maybe your child is testing your boundaries

Parenting is hard & remember you are not alone.

Try this:
1. Reflect what you think your child is feeling (e.g., mad, embarrassed, sad, rejected) and say the following: “You feel ___ “ or “You are ___”
* This validates their emotions

2. Provide choices, while still setting boundaries.
* “People are not for hitting. You can choose to share the toy or you can choose to be done playing”.
* By giving choice, children learn to take responsibility and to be in control of their actions.

In my time researching and counseling parents, I've found that one of the hardest things for parents to do is to regulate their own emotions when their kids reject rules, boundaries, or expectations they have set. 🥵

Studies show that authoritarian and permissive parenting styles are predictors of increased stress levels.

When parents are able to find the right balance, learn to adapt their rules accordingly, and remain consistent, they are able to discover a 💖 glimmer of hope 💖 in their parenting skills. - Dr. Yemi
