Finding Inspiration and Hope in Harry Potter

I have always been a person who enjoys escaping to a new world with a movie, tv show, or good book. For me personally, there is no better book to escape to than Harry Potter. I have always been drawn to Harry Potter and now that I am in the mental health field, I still find myself drawn to the powerful messages contained in those pages.

Struggling with mental health is something that many people deal with. One common coping mechanism people use is reading, because it helps them escape their troubles for a while and live in the fiction of the story. However, one of the things I appreciate about Harry Potter is that you can escape in the fiction and help tame the negative thoughts you may be running from.

J.K. Rowling is not only a fantastic author, but also someone who is very public about her battles with mental health. She incorporated so many messages in her books to help her readers look towards hope and strength. I have always felt inspired by some of these quotes and some I even look to every day to help inspire and motivate me. I hope that you can take these with you and maybe they can give you some inspiration.

Remember that you can find inspiration, joy, and hope anywhere: even in the books on your nightstand.

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light” -Albus Dumbledore. You are not alone and no matter how low you may feel there is always hope. There is always light.

“Thoughts could leave deeper scars than almost anything else” -Madam Pomfrey. Sometimes thoughts can cause more hurt than a punch to the teeth but we can control them and the hurt can lessen.

“Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more, believing in yourself” -Harry Potter. You can work hard to change but believing in yourself is one of the most important parts and can make your work go by with ease.

“You sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve” -Ginny Weasley. Making changes is hard. Believing in yourself is sometimes harder but if you’ve got enough nerve you can fight just about anything.

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right” -Albus Dumbledore. Choosing what is right for your mental health is not always easy.
